Google tells you how to set up your website

Google has just released a guide that tells you what to do if you want to improve the chances of people finding your website.

Almost Everyone these days has a story to tell (or an E-Book to sell) about "How to optimise your site for the search engines".
Unless you know what you are doing, it can be a waste of time – or even harmful – to blindly follow advice which could be outdated or harmful.

A very good basic guide to what you should be doing to your web pages to make them rank higher in search engines has just been released by Google.

This is a compilation of material that has been hidden all over the place on their website. And if you want your website to have the best chance at being listed on Google – and therefore found by prospective clients – then you should know what’s inside this guide.

It’s free, and you can get it at

Other good sources of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) advice are at:
Kalena Jordan’s Blog:

Search Engine Watch: http://searchenginewatch.com/

Warning: Search Engine Optimization is a huge field, and many people get addicted to the finer points. Everyone has their own pet theories.
My suggestion to beginners is to get the basics right based on what you learn from the Google document (above), then move into the more advanced topics as your experience grows.
