Essential Ingredients for Internet Success.

In my recent survey, one of the most common responses was that people wanted to use their websites to make more money.

OK, Great. I can certainly show you ways of doing that.

However due to endless amounts of internet sales crap, many people are under the impression that you can make a gazillion dollars a year doing no work while sitting around in your underwear.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but this is a myth.
However if you have built up a solid reputation with a group of people who trust you, then you can certainly make quite a decent income by doing little more than sending them an email.

Using the internet to gain an income is like anything else. You have to be prepared to put in some work. And quite a bit of time. There’s no magic Internet ATM machine that will spew dollars into your account

I read a study that said that to become a true expert in anything, you need to spend 10,000 hours doing it. And you become reasonable competent, you need to put in around 1,000 hours.

Now I don’t think that you need to put in this sort of time before you can use the internet to start making money.
But I certainly feel that you need to be prepared to spend an hour or two a day for a few weeks to learn how this stuff fits together. Or if you have no desire to do any technical things yourself you can read the ideas presented and refer them to your technical person.

If you don’t want to do this, then I’m sorry – there’s not much I can help you with.

Anybody still here?

A few. Great.

If you’ve had some computer experience, and terms like ZIP, PDF, FTP, HTML, graphic optimisation are old friends that you have worked with before, then you’re going to be able to progress quicker.

If you haven’t got a clue what the above mean, then you’ll either have to be prepared to learn about them as I discuss things, or find someone who can give you a working knowledge of them. There are literally thousands of places on the internet where you can find free tutorials on how to use these things. Use Mr. Google. He is your friend. If a lot of people make comments that they really can’t find anything, I’ll put together a list of resources.

So – The first essential ingredient is a commitment to invest some time.

The second essential ingredient for internet success is the willingness to learn some new things.
If you’re saying things to yourself "I’m xx years old. I can’t understand this, and I can’t possibly learn this stuff. It’s all too hard" then you may as well stop reading too .

Nothing I write about here is going to be of any benefit to you.

Regards,
Eric G.

  • Oddly the html, pdf, ftp or even php stuff doesn’t bother me, its just technology anyone can learn it – well if they are prepared to get over their own mental blocks. And that’s what I had to do with marketing – marketing seriously did my head in figuring out that to make money I was acutally going to have to sell something to someone – at lease indirectly LOL
