Beware of this Chinese Domain Name Sales scam
The creativity of scammers and spammers never ceases to amaze me.
If you get an email headed something like:
URGENT-dispute of Domain name and Internet Brand/China
I’d recommend that you just ignore it.
This conpany (whose message appears below) is using fear tactics on domain name owners to get them to register uneccessary domain names in China – probably for a huge fee.
Google tells you how to set up your website
Google has just released a guide that tells you what to do if you want to improve the chances of people finding your website.
Almost Everyone these days has a story to tell (or an E-Book to sell) about "How to optimise your site for the search engines".
Unless you know what you are doing, it can be a waste of time – or even harmful – to blindly follow advice which could be outdated or harmful.
A very good basic guide to what you should be doing to your web pages to make them rank higher in search engines has just been released by Google.
Rogue ISP shut down – Worldwide SPAM volume falls 60%
Over the last couple of days, the volume of mail passing through our mail server has fallen dramatically.
The reason for this was that one Californian ISP – McColo – has been shut down.
This rogue ISP was the host for a large variety of spammers and hackers.
It’s hard to believe that one ISP could have so much impact, and be the provider of so much frustration to the world’s internet users.

I subscribe to lots of newsletters, and just skim through most of them.
However, I always read through these 3 newsletters as soon as I receive them.

Making Comments, and Joining the Internet Bloke Mailing lists
A couple of people have said that they visited this blog, but didn’t know what to do next.
OK, here’s a quick run down.
Dealing with the Rats Nest of Power Cords in your Office
At last count, my office contained 26 things that need connection to the AC power supply.
And when something needs to be unplugged, it used to take me ages to find the right cord, and I often would unplug the wrong thing and the computer or some other item would die.
I tried labelling the cords with bits of tape, but that was too fiddly. Colour coding was also a pain to maintain. So I invented a simple, elegant solution that really works.

Red Bubble – Selling Your Art on the Internet
Artists and Photographers trying to sell their work on the internet generally give up because of the difficulties involved with setting up online galleries, payment systems, creating prints, collecting money, packaging and posting, etc.
It just gets too hard.
Fake You Tube Pages contain Viruses
If you ever click on links to view YouTube movies, beware of the latest trick by hackers.
If you are sent an email asking you to go to YouTube to see a movie, be careful. You may be sent to a web page that looks just like YouTube, which tells you to click on a link to install some upgraded software before you can view the movie.
The page is a fake, and if you click on the upgrade link you’ll get something nasty installed onto your computer.
If you’re aware, you’ll see that the address in the browser bar is not a normal YouTube address.
Be careful. The criminals out there are getting more and more devious. And internet users seem to be getting more and more careless.
