Picasa 3.5 now Identifies FACES in your photos. VERY cool!!

I’ve been using the free Photo management program “Picasa”   for the management of my photos for ages.

It’s the best application I’ve used for removing red eye, sending pics by email, making albums, etc. etc.

The latest version, 3.5 now adds many new features like geotagging and face recognition.

I LOVE face recognition. Picasa scans your hard drive for photos, and presents you with the faces. You then start putting names to the faces, and google will start building albums of the photos where a particular face appears.

As you provide feedback on the selections it makes, it gets more and more accurate with its identification.

After the process finishes, you can click on someones name, and see all the photos in which that person appears. You can then export these to a folder, make a slideshow and upload it to YouTube, or perform various other tasks with them.

If you are already using Picasa – grab the upgrade.

If you’ve never used it before, download it and prepare to have all your photo management problems solved.

Download it free from www.Picasa.com

Cheers, Eric G.

The Two Faces of Wordpress

Wordpress is a fantastic website platform that is now extensively used for blogs, websites, and a combination of both.

But it has 2 very different faces that most people don’t know about. Which can cause a great deal of confusion when Wordpress is discussed.

Both versions are free, which adds to the confusion. If only wordpress has given them different names . .
OK, here we go. This will be pretty painless.

Before You Start Your Own Internet Business

For most people, starting an online business involves finding a website developer, and then going along with whatever the developer says.

While this may seem easy and convenient, it also has many dangers. The main one is that you can easily lose control of your website and your entire online business. You can also become locked into an arrangement where any change to your website will be time consuming and expensive.

I want to take you back a couple of steps, and share some basic stuff about websites and online businesses that most people don’t know. Continue reading “Before You Start Your Own Internet Business” »

Boring, Boring, Boring. But Essential.

A local neuroscientist leading a team of 10 people in groundbreaking Altzheimer’s research has lost 6 months of research data and analysis.
Because his laptop was stolen. And he had no backup of the data.

WordPress – The Perfect Website for Small Business People

You can have a fully operational website like this within a few hours.  Free.

A common stumbling block for small businesses is the creation of a new website. Or the updating of an old website.

I’ve seen people waiting  for months while a friend or relative “builds them a site”.  Or  spend thousands of dollars on a custom, hand built site  where every change has to be done by the developer for a fee. Wouldn’t it be great to update and change it yourself. Anytime you like

12 Rules for Online Survival

I’ve personally broken most of these, and suffered the consequences.

I hope you learn from my mistakes.

1. Use your commonsense. Don’t believe everything you hear, read, or see.
2. Don’t authorise, buy, or sign up for ANYTHING unless you know what is, what it does, whether it works, and whether you need it.

I Survived Dr. Joes Hypnotic Marketing

A while ago, I received an email about a new Web 2.0 related product by Dr Joe Vitale, (Doctor Fire) who is a well known Internet Marketer. I haven’t bought anything from Dr. Joe before, and the sales letter did its work so I dutifully punched in my card number.

The RADIO RULE – How To Choose an Effective Domain Name

This simple test will tell you if a domain name you’re considering is going to be effective.

It’s getting more and more difficult to find a good .com domain name. Pretty well every word in the dictionary has already been dot-commed. So a lot of people (including some highly paid consultants who should know better) are coming up with some really stupid ones.

Because they just don’t think. Continue reading “The RADIO RULE – How To Choose an Effective Domain Name” »
